Before you appoint a marine surveyor
What information is needed for a Bahamas marine survey quote?
Provide the exact island, marina or yard, vessel details, construction, purpose and date. Include air or ferry access, haul-out, sea trial, storm or repair history and any insurer, lender or Bahamas flag requirement.
Can one surveyor cover every Bahamian island?
Not as a general assumption. Some surveyors travel, but flights, boats, accommodation, weather and yard capability can be material. Start with the actual island and presentation of the vessel.
Can a survey address hurricane or storm damage?
Yes, through a separately agreed evidence-led scope. Provide event dates, prior reports, photographs, repairs and insurer instructions and avoid altering relevant evidence before the surveyor advises.
Who may perform Bahamas flag yacht surveys?
The Bahamas Maritime Authority identifies authorised BMA surveyors, Recognised Organisation surveyors and Yacht Survey Organisation surveyors for defined formal work. The correct route depends on yacht size, use and required certificate.
Are inter-island travel and haul-out included?
Only when expressly included. Flights, ferries, boats, accommodation, yard fees, lift, wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel and specialist testing can be separate.
Who appoints the marine surveyor?
The client appoints and instructs the independent surveyor directly. Bahamas Marine Survey provides information and introductions and does not perform the inspection.
